You’ve heard about some of the changes in Terminator 2 3D but what else has been changed and how good is the 3D experience? TheTerminatorFans.com correspondent Jonathan Tam went to see Terminator 2: 3D at an early press screening and brought the following information back to TheTerminatorFans.com HQ.

Notable changes in the presentation of Terminator 2 3D:

    • Before the usual Carolco logo there are three new additional credits: a) a Studiocanal intro video; b) |This 3D conversion is introduced by Studiocanal; and c) in association with DMG Entertainment.
    • T2 movie credits in the intro scene really stand out with 3D- although not digitally overlaid over the old text as evidently seen in the font resolution.
    • The most prominent 3D effect is in the future war. Ruins, cars and skulls have a lot of depth of field with the 3D conversion.
The 3D / depth of field is much less evident as the film starts,- after the future war scenes. Most of the time taking off the 3D glasses doesn’t make much of a difference to the viewing experience.
    • Film resolution and noise also have major differences between future war and main film. Future war has lower resolution / more noise than main movie
    • Sound is one major change / improvements. They adjusted the overall frequencies focus so that the mid-range stand out (spoken lines, glass shattering, flames in starting credit scene, gun shots etc). Bass (shotguns and Harley bikes) have improved drastically!
    • Lots of other scenes- which people considered “movie mistakes” have been left alone

    Robert Patrick Testicle/Genital Removal/Cover-Up:

CGI concrete now covers up Robert Patrick’s genitals, as previously revealed by Screen Rant.

Schwarzenegger Digital Face Swap/Replace of Stuntman Peter Kent:

The trailers revealed this shot of the major Schwarzenegger digital CGI face replacement…

The following Peter Kent stunt from the Drainage/Flood Canal has also been replaced with Arnold’s Face (VFX).

Terminator 2 3D Drainage Flood Canal Peter Kent Jump Arnold CG Face

The following shot of the T-800 riding alongside the canal… Kent’s face remains unchanged.

Again, the following scene (Motorcycle/Bike Transfer Gag) has a digital Arnold face was a swap out also. While the scene was too quick to confirm if a digital face swap has take place for Edward (report back to us- those of you Terminator Fans who have seen the movie).

Canal Motorcycle Bike Transfer Terminator 2 3D

Pescadero State Hospital Stunt Driver Head Removed:

In the following scene from the Pescadero State Hospital Escape the Stunt Driver’s head has been digitally removed!

Terminator 2 3D Stunt Driver Removed Pescadero Escape

Overall the 3D conversion of Terminator 2: Judgment Day 3D is subtle but effective.

This is what Jonathan Noticed on his first watch of the movie but if Terminator Fans spot anything else let us know!

As usual all Terminator Fans want to know about Terminator private parts and subtle changes but the real question is- has James Cameron gone George Lucas on our asses?

There has been some comparison of this release to what George Lucas did with the Star Wars remasters… but we call major bullshit and think that James Cameron stayed totally grounded and only made alterations fans would expect to see, he thankfully didn’t go too far…

Don’t expect to see this kind of CG photobomb nonsense in Terminator 2 3D….

At the end of the original version of the film, you can see Arnold’s arm tucked in underneath the jacket in some scenes to a degree, example when the T800 is crawling to the grenade launcher and the T1000 spikes though his back with the pole, would be nice if Jim didn’t oversee these scenes. Also while this additional comment isn’t written in the right place but does anyone know what the date of release is for China ? haven’t heard anything of it.

I want to see this film so bad! For 25 years I’ve longed to watch it on a really big screen! Bring it to México! I will beg the producers, in Sarah Connor’s style:
“You have to let me see this film. Please. Please!” And if I don’t watch it… Well, you know what happens next!

I just saw it in ny. I was too young to go when it originally came out. But I could care less about these mistakes. Seriously does it even matter. It was awesome seeing it on the big screen.

The Payphone money box was cleaned up. you can no longer see the outline of brake away section that Arnold punches. Also the windows no longer fall out of the tow truck when it jumps off the bridge into the canal. Lastly I think the Cyberdyne lobby scene was slightly edited to show less of the Arnold dummy that was being shot by police/ swat officers.

Thanks for the info Garrett. We didn’t report on the windshield because it was commonly known and previously reported but thanks for the other info. We will include it to the post!

Got back from seeing it this evening. It was glorious. I picked up on the sound also, much clearer with sound effects. The screen from the truck didn’t come off when driven off the bridge. Everything else was much the same. Hope the extended edition makes it into 3d on the Blu-ray. Cemented why its still my favourite film. So happy. Thanks Mr. Cameron.

I noticed the stunt actors faces had been replaced. Though there appeared to me more reflections of people on the t1000 especially when he gets the helicopter pilot to jump. Oh yea and the t1000’s balls where obscured by some concrete when he is cocking the gun.

The arms in helicopter were not an error, they were intentional. The T-1000 creates additional arms to allow him to fly the helicopter and shoot and reload at the same time.
