According to Terminator: Dark Fate writer and producer, James Cameron, Gabriel Luna’s new Terminator villain’s model is a REV 9 (in an interview with Flicks and the City).

There was previously discussion within the Terminator Fan community of Luna being a different T-1000 or even possibly a new T-800 but it appears that the studios behind the newest instalment to the Terminator franchise (which is set for U.S release this November) decided to design a whole new model of killing machine.
James Cameron stated:
“Then of course we have to have a new nemesis, we spent a lot of time on our nemesis from the future – I’m not gonna say too much about his powers and capabilities and so on but he’s pretty damn spectacular. He’s played by Gabriel Luna, and the character’s name is REV 9. There was a REV 8 and a REV 7 but they weren’t as bad; this guy’s the bad one and we spent a fair bit of time on his design and I think he’s going to impress.”

Director, Tim Miller told CinemaCon 2019 in Las Vegas that Gabriel Luna’s villain would have the ability to split in two, with journalists at the event describing this ability as a “black ooze” and a “dulled endoskeleton” – we previously discussed the fact that the descriptions sounded familiar to us from previous (now non-canon) instalments in the franchise, ie, an unused concept of the T-850 from T3, mixed with the T-X, Terminator Fans have also pointed out that the T-3000 (John Connor) from Terminator Genisys could also be included in that blend of old ideas.
Could Gabriel Luna’s new Terminator model, the REV 9, be the creation of Arius motors – the garage/car manufacturing plant seen in behind the scenes images and footage from Terminator: Dark Fate?
Could the very engineering taking place at Arius cause Judgment Day?
What do you think of the new Terminator model’s name?

The concept is interesting and I personally like it, however, the CGI needs some work. I wish it was more practical like T2 but it is what it is. If you’re going heavy on CGI it has to look good.
Release is six month away, I think it’s still work-in-progress.
The CGI usually isn’t 100% final in the first trailers for any movie. We’ll most likely see more realistic lighting, etc in the last trailer before movie release.
I think the ‘REV 9’ concept is great. The ‘liquid effect’ kinda reminds me of Venom, than the T-1000.
The idea of a terminator that can split into two opens up a whole new range of possibilities. What keeps me sceptical though is that I cannot come up with any good explanation for it that doesn’t severely conflict with the concepts of the terminators in T1 and T2.
In T2 we learn that the T-1000 was in fact a prototype, not a mass assembled machine like the T-800. With that prototype destroyed, the REV9 poses new questions:
– Is he one of a kind?
– If so, how, after the destruction of the T-1000 and the prevention of judgement day?
– What future is he from and in what way is it different from the one depicted in T1 and T2?
An interesting thought though: What if that endoskeleton of his was arbitrarily replacable. We see sarah Connor blasting the endoskeleton with a bazooka. If terminators are not as ridiculously overpowered as in T3 and T:G that endoskeleton would have been destroyed in the blast (as the terminator in T1 was destroyed by a simple pipe grenade).
Think of the idea of the REV9 having a multitude of those endoskeletons at its disposal – I think that would be kind of cool.
The REV 9 has synthetic musculature. That’s going to make it MUCH faster, agile, and stronger than a T800. Took snaps and increased the focus and you can see it in his arms and neck. Need to get in closer on the lower body too.
Gabriel Luna looked as tough guy in Ghost Rider. But I don´t understand styling in trailer why orange checked shirt for Terminator ??? Looks like country singer and not deadly machine. Schwarzenegger was cool in the T1,2,3 Leather rags, glasses, motorbike.
Did I watch the same trailer? You can see that Luna Terminator wear different outfits. I have seen at least 3 different outfit he is wearing.
Why does it even matter what he wears? He’s a machine, he blends in, the rest is aesthetics and as such irrelevant – if it happens to be a leather jacket, fair enough, if it’s just a hill billy shirt, then what? T-1000 was dressed like a patrol man, not the cool dude’s outfit either, is it?
Rev-9 yellow shirts, is Daniela Ramos father clothes. New villain kills him before..
A missed opportunity for the main villain was to show how it’s regeneration and replication powers works, by grabbing one of those rebars and absorbing/consuming it into it’s main mass to repair damage and create replicas of itself.
Pretty awesome idea combining the T-800 and T-1000 into one! And Black-ish color looks intense and badass. Let’s be honest, when we had T-1000 in silver, it looked a bit fake, like when you create 3D models and don’t do any texturing, but if it comes in black – it looks badass and red eye now looks even more frightening.
People go and complain how poor it is, but look how thick the liquid layer is on top of the T-800 model, this looks real as it gets. SO i trully dig it. Let’s hope it’s Rated R and all be fine.
Question – Where is John? Hiding somewhere leading already existing Resistance where Sarah will be taking Grace and Dani with the help of THE Terminator? And we get a cameo from Edward in the very end, like 5 seconds.
Let’s face it, the Trailer showed us that they DO TRAVEL SOMEWHERE and they also travel after they find THE Terminator. SO maybe they need to make it to the very first resistance outpost led by John?
