Following the recent success of Teyon Games and Reef Entertainment‘s DLC release for Terminator: Resistance – titled ‘Infiltrator Mode‘; Terminator Fans have had a refresher course on why they loved the franchise in the first place.

Much of the fanbase have always wanted a Terminator movie set in the post-apocalyptic future war, with a story which shows the full arc / loop of the Resistance, led by General John Connor, smashing the SkyNet defence grid and sending Kyle Reese back to 1984 to finish (or start, depending on your perspective) the time loop – giving the audience the long-waited conclusion to that legendary first story. It’s a rich storyline which provides the viewer with a real sense of anticipation, because it has always felt predestined. Meant to be.
Over the years there have been many opportunities for such a movie to come to pass, though sadly, over the course of time, the studios (whichever entity happened to be in control of the franchise at any given moment) have chosen to focus almost solely on the termination of John Connor, and by extension, the termination of the very possibility of a real future war movie. But is that all about to change? Is it really about to finally happen – and will James Cameron take the helm to carry it through?

The entertainment news source We Got This Covered (I know, I know, any time we mention WGTC on this website we feel the weight of your collective tutting, but here it is anyway) have reported that:

“James Cameron May Be Making A New Terminator Movie Set In The Future”

    WGTC

The source of the article, a ”A Twitter influencer and writer” named Daniel Richtman has stated that:

“Despite the last one bombing, James Cameron still wants a new Terminator film and this one to be set during the war in the future like #4,”

    Daniel Richtman

Now, James Cameron appears to be firmly entrenched in the world of the Na’vi with his back-to-back Avatar movies, and the Terminator future war information comes from Daniel Richtman’s Patreon account; with the item in question being rather blandly labeled as a “Rumor” – so sadly, I’d suggest keeping your hopes fairly tempered, as this may yet come to nothing – let’s not forget WGTC’s report on the Hulu Terminator series…

Absolutely. I want them / someone to finish the story. Whether it be Terminator:TSCC or DARK FATE. It would be great either way to just finish the story. Further to this I really enjoyed the Terminator: TSCC I enjoyed each week and the storyline was great, gave us something to look forward to.

Yes we do want such a movie. But written and directed by James Cameron. So, all we have to do is NOT to see Avatar sequels in cinemas, and all other projects Big Jim could try 😉

Jim should be back as a director, Arnold as some character, not have to be the T-800 this time, but maybe a guy whose face was used to create a T-800’s skin. I think a new movie should be a direct sequel for T3. That last one was not so bad for me, just in a different tonation.

Wasn’t this just the original plan for the followup to Dark Fate? Second movie in that trilogy would follow on from Dani’s J-Day?

Yes before it was but noone wants to see follow up to Dark Fate as it sucked everyone wants to see “prequel” to T1, THE future war where THE John Connor wins the war in 2029 and how he sends Kyle Reese/T-800 back to protect his mom and his younger self.

      Busquen a Linda Hamilton a Arnold y a Furlong.
Que sea una pelicula digna de poder ver.
Que no sea mas de lo mismo
      Ojala algun dia lo hagan.

PLEASE stop on 18 November 2020 1:54 pm

Please . . Can the Terminator franchise just rest in peace.

Dark Fate bombed at the box office it bombed hard.

This is not the 80’s or the 90’s it is the 2020’s

James Cameron no longer knows how to make a Terminator film anymore.

      Kill John Conner ? Yep

      T800 -101 Family Guy ? Yep

      Erase Skynet ? Yep

Please no more it’s an embarrassment, and only the short remaining die hard fan’s left are the only ones interested.

I think they should let it go. As much as I have been wanting to see future war movie, Skydance has just made all of this a joke with the release of Genisys and DF. These movies really put Terminator in a bad place. I saw a post that a new Predator movie is in the works… my reaction was to roll my eyes and keep scrolling. I could care less about that, then I read this about Terminator. The truth is I’m sure most people who aren’t die hard Terminator fans like me will probably react the same way – roll their eyes and keep scrolling. Let’s give Terminator a rest on the big screen. I love what they did with Terminator Resistance. A series could work on the small screen but it has to be done right.

I’m only waiting for the prequel movie Terminator: War 2029 . History in the future . The world Kyle Reese talked about . I’m waiting for the original Skynet and Cyberdyne Systems equipment – with the original design from the first two films . With music by Brad Fiedel . Waiting for the original Hunter-Killer Tank , Hunter-Killer Aerial , Hunter-Killer Centurion in the movie . Waiting for the atmosphere and design from the first two Terminator movies .

I Expect a story in the future 2027-2029 . Events that occurred prior to the dispatch of the T-800 CSM-101 (Cyberdyne Systems Model 101) in 1984 . And events before Kyle Reese was sent back to 1984 . I wonder what the original time machine from T1 and T2 looked like , how the resistance fighters lived , how people hid from the terminators . See the factories where terminators and SkyNet equipment are created . See the T-600 and T-700 (from Terminator 4) again in the new Terminator 7 movie . See the entire range of Skynet terminators : T-1 (First Generation and Second Generation), T-70, T-200, T-400, T-500, T-600, T-700, T-800, T-850, T-888, Series T-900 Class TOK-715 (aka T-889-F) , I-950, T-1000, Dog Terminator, Hydrobot, Mini-Hunter Drones, Hunter-Killer Tank , Hunter-Killer aerial , hunter-killer centurion, harvester, HK-transport and other Skynet robotics equipment

This is the movie that Terminator fans have wanted since T2. The future war scenes in Terminator 1 were captivating and the future war scene in T2 was absolutely incredible. It makes sense that a third movie should take place in the future. Based on what Kyle Reese said in 1, there was never even supposed to be a T2 but Cameron made it work because conceptually, machine vs. machine was still interesting and the concept didn’t entirely re-hash the one introduced in the first movie.

Sadly, I have to agree with the other commenters stating that it’s time to leave this franchise alone. Cameron isn’t into it anymore and he clearly indicated his intent in wrapping it up by indicating in T2 that the war was prevented. T3 and Genysis tried to turn this franchise into a comedy, and the latter was especially atrocious. With the exception of Salvation, they just keep copying the same formula of T2 except that the T-1000 gets replaced with a more advanced machine in every new iteration.

Salvation was on the right track but it still faltered terribly. Cameron showed us a future where humans were living covertly, eating rats to survive, and engaging in guerilla warfare. Salvation had humans fighting out in the open with an indiscreet front line base. In Cameron’s future, dust and debris from the nuclear fallout blocked out the sun and created a perpetual twilight. In Salvation, most of the action took place in broad daylight. In T2, the only reason why we see endoskeletons on the battlefield is because Skynet is losing and running out of resources. I don’t think that Salvation had endoskeletons roaming around liberally as in the other films, but there was still a lot of stupidity with terminators choosing to throw humans around instead of ripping their head off on the spot. Nobody knows how to make a proper future war movie anymore because the nuances are lost on the directors and executives who just want more endoskeletons.
