As predicted; Disney found a way to make legal problems go away and now owns 20th Century Fox. So how does this effect Terminator?
For James Cameron to be involved in the next Terminator movie a deal was struck with 20th Century Fox to have distribution of the Untitled Terminator Reboot (Terminator 6/Terminator 2 Sequel) in the following countries…
(Australia) (theatrical)
(Germany) (theatrical)
(France) (theatrical)
(UK) (theatrical)
Now Disney owns 20th Century Fox that deal should be carrying over to them. Seemingly Deadpool will be allowed to possibly carry on as R Rated under the Marvel Cinematic Universe umbrella. This has calmed down some serious fan concerns over Deadpool’s cinematic future but take promises with a pinch of salt at this stage.
Terminator has no Umbrella at Disney and 20th Century do not own Terminator (Skydance does). Something tells us that Disney are not going to want to be distributing a blood soaked/horror fueled Rated R Terminator movie that the fans expect under the Disney name.
On the other hand Skydance has released a Hard R TV Series ‘Altered Carbon’, is turning ‘Star Trek’ Rated R with Paramount so maybe all hope isn’t lost just yet…
James Cameron’s Avatar is now Disney owned; this suits that property but it does NOT suit Terminator.
Will a new Umbrella be created for Terminator and R Rated/mature movies at Disney? Will Terminator become part of the MCU? Could the 20th Century name minus the FOX be kept alive?
Another option is the Disney name is left out of Terminator and simply is left to just be a financial matter on paper when it comes to distribution, or the other option is Terminator 6 will be a full on PG-13 Disney accepted/co-branded movie in those distribution countries listed above.
More PG-13 Terminator? No thanks. Go Hard R or expect another chunk of this fan base to walk away.

This is probably the worst scenario that has ever happened in the film and entertainment industry, what is Murdoch able to buy now that wasn’t possible before ? Disney is really pushy on what they want played in theatres as well, this will be a disaster having competing studios releasing films over the Christmas period.
Why don’t they just buy Warner Bros. Paramount and Universal and be done with it ?
Anyway Skydance following Tarantino’s desire to make Star Trek R rated is interesting, Perhaps Terminator announced as R rated could be, Should be in the cards, this franchise shouldn’t be treated as a child’s film as such and if they don’t understand this time to bring the mature tone back into the fold and have that sinister unstoppable atmosphere, then I believe terminators reputation will be unrepairable.
If they did that there would be antitrust laws being enacted. Disney effectively would have a monopoly and have to break back up ala Standard Oil or Bell Telephone.
Also, Disney releases movies all the time that are rated R. Ever hear of Pretty Woman? Con Air? The Rock? Starship Troopers? They don’t just make kiddie stuff. And Skydance is not a Disney company anyway so it should be all good.
Terminator 6 with Disney and PG-13. Are they taking the piss. It should be Rated R, and it’s not a kids film.
You write as if you know whats going on and whats going to happen. The deal hasn’t even been approved yet but it does look likely.
You guys forgot there’s a certain “TOUCHSTONE” brand
Disney only want Terminator so they will have copyright protection against anyone trying to travel back through time to kill Walt Disney before he accidentally lays the foundations for their terrifying future dystopia.
