Although Terminator: Dark Fate began life as a PG-13 movie; Executive Producer/Co-Writer James Cameron and Director Tim Miller have gone on to confirm that the movie will be Rated R.
Reshoots and Mr. Miller doing alternate takes along the way, with added swearing is now allowing the movie to go R in post-production.
Terminator: Dark Fate is good news for fans who are tired of PG-13 Terminator movies (we’re really sick of them) and while we would rather the films went hardcore with a HARD R (hopefully we are moving in that direction as long as the fans that want that – keep applying the pressure and stay the course).
This is a big budget tent-pole but just to hear that Dark Fate isn’t PG-13 brings a sigh of relief (despite the fact the script and the movie began as PG-13).
In the following video we discuss previous age ratings from the franchise; how The Terminator (1984) was Rated 18 in the UK, and how over the course of the subsequent movies – a Rated R Terminator movie (T3: ROTM) came to be a measly 12 Age Classification (UK), this is no different than a PG-13 movie in the states!
*Note: TheTerminatorFans.com would actually prefer an NC-17 or at least a HARD R Terminator movie; this is something we have mentioned numerous times before. An NC-17 (not liked by Hollywood for monetary reasons) is the closest to the UK 18 Rating you can pretty much get.
This website has championed the return of the Terminator franchise to being R rated since the franchise went PG-13, and that was a compromise in itself and feels even more of a compromise with Terminator: Dark Fate and its post production age rating change.
Yes, the greedy f*ckers in Hollywood, and let’s not pretend they have changed their ways, have been taking liberties with the R Rating and misleading fans of franchises that were born in blood!
In the UK our Ratings system makes it even more evident that the fans have been lied to.
Terminator Fans Unhappy With UK Age Rating of Terminator: Dark Fate?
What is quite surprising is fans are actually not responding well to the 15 age rating on our social media pages. We remember when The Terminator (1984) was horror and was classified 18 in the UK and well… maybe Terminator 2 (even though a great movie) – moving forwards T2 has really just toned things down way too much, to the point where a 15 might not be enough to satisfy the hardcore fan base anymore.
So, let’s find out how you really feel with the following poll, and then in roughly a week’s time, we will discuss the result.
Drop a comment below to share your thoughts on the ratings, tell us if you are happy or unhappy with the age rating for Terminator: Dark Fate, or even just over the life of the franchise, the post-production age rating change on Dark Fate etc.
We will read out some comments when the results are in!

I took my daughter (13) to watch the latest Spiderman movie yesterday and the new Terminator movie trailer was shown. This suggests to me that it will be a 12A.
A 15-cert is most likely, but no rating is on the BBFC’s site as of yet. And the original Terminator is now a 15-cert to buy as well as the second film, and both are fully uncut in all forms.
So it’s 100% confirmed that Dark Fate is Rated-R (by all standards) ?
good, one good reason to go and see it in the theaters.
T3 Rise of The Machines 2003: only has one really brutal/shocking moment that catapults it to the R-rating (that punched through the car seat moment), delete it and it’s mostly a PG-13 with some swearing sprinkled here and there.
Something is wrong with the vote box…its stuck…it wouldn’t let me scroll down to select Rated X.
You want to vote NC-17 then…
“In September 1990, the MPAA introduced the rating “NC-17” (“No Children Under 17 Admitted”). Henry & June – previously to be assigned an “X” rating – was the first film to receive the “NC-17″ rating instead.”
I am happy with 12 uk . But 15 means more detail graphic. Take any category but no not 18 .
No way the original Terminator would still be rated 18 if it were a new movie today. In 1984 times were very different. 15 is fine.
To be honest, I’ve seen some recent dark and violent films that were rated 15. The Purge movies were 15s. I think The Terminator would be probably rated 15 if coming out now. I don’t think a 15 rating is a massive cause for concern. It matches with T2, which is good enough for me.
15 est plutôt correct mais avec un scénario et des effets spéciaux qui s’en suit !
Will a R rating cover a gay scene between the T-800 and the Rev-9?
How far can the trailer delay? Not on August 29th??
The Terminator 1 is rated 15, not 18. Look it up
The Terminator (1984) was an 18 up until 2001 when it was reclassified for a special edition home release (DVD and VHS). Our article goes by the original age rating / classification of each movie (BBFC).
