One of the favorites in film-making for Terminator Fans is practical effects. Practical effects made it possible for us to see an Endoskeleton chase down Sarah and Kyle in the computer factory in the first movies finale, to see the T-1000’s head split open and other fascinating effects that added believability to scenes in Terminator 2. CGI now is more popular than ever and we at TheTerminatorFans.com would rather see a puppet Endoskeleton any day of the week over a CGI Endoskeleton that looks like it’s a cartoon character.

    Terminator Salvation Review

Harbinger Down is an independent science-fiction monster horror movie that will return us to glory days of practical effect cinema. The movie will feature only practical creature effects created by ADI (Amalgamated Dynamics, Inc.) through the use of animatronics, prosthetic makeup, stop motion and miniature effects, instead of unrealistic CGI. The movie was successfully funded on twitter which is certainly a sign that people want movies with more practical effects.

To make the movie even cooler (not just in the temperatures of the Bering Sea) it stars Detective Hal Vuckovich himself (Lance Henriksen). Originally the role of ‘The Terminator (T-800)’ was written with Lance in mind to play the character and James Cameron even did concept art of Lance as ‘The Terminator’ before Arnold was even considered for the role of the T-800. Arnold Schwarzenegger was originally up for the role of Kyle Reese.

    Official Movie Description:

Harbinger Down is an upcoming American independent science-fiction monster horror film written and directed by Alec Gillis and produced by Tom Woodruff, Jr.;  Studio ADI.

The plot of the film follows a group of graduate students aboard the titular fishing trawler Harbinger, who are studying the effects of global warming on a pod of Orcas in the Bering Sea. When the ship’s crew discover the wreckage of Soviet era spacecraft, they are attacked by shape-shifting alien monsters.

Tom Woodruff the producer also worked on the special effects for… The Terminator. The trailer also features the son of Special Effects Master Stan Winston who was a pioneer of practical effects. You can see Matt Winston in the trailer but most notably when he is being sucked up into the air by the ‘Creature’. Is Matt infected and merging with the creature? We will have to wait to see what his character’s outcome will be…
